adison's first hockey game, er championship!

 
 

last week we received a call asking adison if she would like to represent the stirling blues in a tyke tournament in warkworth.  she was so excited when we asked her... it was an immediate YES!  she has had hockey skills for the last 2 years, but she had never played a real game of hockey... and we had missed alot of her icetime this year, due to her brothers hockey schedule.  so we didn't know what to expect going into the tournament.

ben and anna pearl were more excited than adison i think... anna chose to skip soccer to cheer on her sister and ben gave up his chance to represent foxboro school at the regional free throw competition (in which he beat out grade 8's to get the school title) to come and cheer on his little sister.  i was proud of both of them for this.

nanny and grandpa joined us for the first game...adi was a little apprehensive once she got on the ice... but she stayed on and kept smiling, so we considered that a victory in itself! (blurry photo's from anna's camera)

 

but from the time the puck dropped in the second game... adi had found her groove... she wasn't the most offensive player on the ice (jacoby had that one down), but she made some great plays, was aggressive in the corners, and got a lot of assists.   she even got to take some face offs, but you could tell that she was most in her element when she was playing defense.  she was easily one of the fastest kids on the team and did i mention that she was THE ONLY GIRL!

it was a long day... we played 3 games in total... at 10, 12 and 6.  i think adi had as much fun off the ice with her teammates, as she did on the ice...

 

but we decided to head home between the 2nd and 3rd games...  so anna actually got to play her soccer game (scoring 2 goals in a 6-1 victory)  but, we had to drive through quite the blizzard on the way back to the rink...

 

which gave our girl a chance to catch a few zzzz's...

 

but as soon as we pulled into the arena parking lot... it was game on...

we all had so much fun... ben and anna were the best cheerleaders ever.  adison was so excited just to play the game.  matt and i enjoyed a day where we could all be together. 

 

adison has been invited to play again in a march break tournament and even though i was planning to take the kids to myrtle beach for march break... it was a unanimous decision to stay put and play hockey.  roll blues roll!

 

 

 


 

 

ketcheson's pond

friends of ours have cleared off a local pond for the kids to use.  it is a neighbourhood favourite for sure.  my kids are loving it.  we were able to take our step cousins to the rink for their first outdoor skate.  they live in toronto and skate on indoor ice pads, but they LOVED the pond.  especially antioine... watch out for that one... he just may make the big leagues someday!

i almost forgot,...

to share some pics of our new years celebration.  we had a few friend over for the festivities.  omg.. there was so much food... and so yummy.  the kids played michael jackson and dance revolution on the wii, played stick hockey and sang karaoke.  they seemed to have a fun time together.

the adults kept themselves busy eating all that food.  we watched the ball drop, like we always do. 

 

we toasted the new year...

 

 

and some of us even celebrated with a kiss, but i am not mentioning any names...

 
 

oh, and did i mention that the ladies played wii too?  they had to show up those young folks... ya know, show them how it's done!

a weird but welcome kind of sunday

today was the weirdest of sundays.  both anna and adison were out of the house by 10 am.  anna was invited to go with her aunt mimi to great wolf lodge for 2 days... and adison was invited to one of her besties for a full day play date.  which left, just matt and i and ben home together.

this is the first time that adi has been away from me for an entire day, (except for when she is with family or leslie... almost family)... just another bonus of her insulin pump.  there were many things i could have done... like clean out the crawl space or put away laundry or wash the floors.  but i did nothing of the sort.

instead, i sat and surfed the internet and fed my addiction to all things owls.... i found the cutest things... like this owl pillow...

then when matt and ben set out to port perry for a hockey game, i was left all alone in the house.  no tv.  it was heavenly.  so i lighted my favourite candle, turned on some  amy seeley courtesy of youtube (i am so in love with this song), made a cup of green tea (or two) and started felting a pillow for my cousins baby.  unfortunately after about 3 hours of bliss... my pillow turned out to be a disaster, but oh well, i had fun with the process.

adi returned home shortly after 7 pm.  i missed her.  like crazy.  the boys are on their way home from their final game of the regular season.  they lost their series against port perry which means no more hockey for about a month... until the second season starts.  so we may have a few more quiet sundays in our future.

my word for twentyeleven

GRATEFUL

i love to read other blogs and see what words my fellow bloggers have chosen as "their" word for the coming year.  the "word" that will inspire and lead them through.  i always think about it, but have never have decided on "my" word, let alone, put it out there for all to see.  but this year i was determined to claim "my" word.  and it wasn't hard at all... i thought about the possiblilities for a couple of days and finally one word jumped up and said... "i'm yours".

grateful... it totally fits with some of the changes that i want to make in my life and some of the goals that i have for this year.  "grateful" will be the word to inspire and lead me through twentyeleven.
