fortunately we were able to make an entire weekend out of family day. and we filled it with lots of fun things that our family loves..
on sunday we were lucky enough to spend the day with matt's work family. we were invited to attend an ice fishing tournament on stoco lake. i am not normally one for venturing out on the ice, but i knew that the kids would love it. so, though it was freezing cold, we spent the entire day out on the ice in tweed. we fished, and skated, and 4 wheeled and tobagganed and ate and drank and visited.
shey and anna laced up as soon as we arrived...
and then settled into the warm and cozy fish hut for some ice fishing...
adison spent pretty much the entire day on the open ice... lucky for her, one of her close friends, natalie, was there to enjoy the festivities as well. they played together all afternoon and had so much fun...
adison especially loved the ice fishing... and kept coming back for more!
but she made sure to squeeze in some 4 wheeling as well...

benjamin played a little pond hockey and had fun skating on the endless rink. but, he made fast friends with one of the neighbourhood boys and off they went to a fishing hut down the cove... only to be seen again, when we had to drag him home.

we met a lot of great people. everyone was so friendly. even this little guy... i guess you never know who, or what, you will run into on the ice in tweed...
this was honeslty and truly so much fun. i spent alot of the afternoon in the ice hut and it brought back so many memories of when i was a little girl. my family were avid hunters and fishers and as a youngster, i spent many hours in an ice hut on the moira river with my grandparents and uncles. the smell of minnows mixed with the small fireplace and the ice, transported me instantly to such a fun time in my life. i am so happy that my kids get to enjoy this activity as well. now if only we can convince daddy that we need an ice hut of our own next year? i think i know of the perfect spot for one!

we headed home just before nightfall and settled in together to watch a movie. we NEVER do this, but it was a nice change.
the next day... the official stat holiday... we spent preparing for a turkey dinner and puttering around the house. my sister and some friends joined us for dinner too and it was just a nice relaxing day.
