i love when bloggers share pictures of their home... getting a little sneak peak into how they decorate, arrange, organize. i love how perfect and inspiring the homes can be. so inspiring. right now i am in love with this kitchen

serena from the farm chicks is the author of one of my favourite blogs. i love her style... vintage, bright, airy, fun! what i love about this kitchen inparticular is the light, airy, spacious feeling, the white cabinets, the red accessories.
matt and i have been toying with the idea of painting our cabinets white, since we moved into our home 8 years ago. it is just such a big job. and what if we don't like it when we are finished? there are lots of other things that i would change in our kitchen if i happened upon some fun money...
- soapstone countertops
- a farmhouse/apron front sink
- wall mounted faucet
- vintage stove/fridge
- over the stove microwave (or better yet, under the counter)
- hardwood floors
- reclaimed brick/wainscotting surround on the fireplace
- roman blinds in some funky/vintage/graphic fabric
- sparkling glass knobs on the cupboards and mustache pulls on the drawers
a couple of years ago when we added our family room addition, we also repainted the kitchen and layed down new laminate floors. i loved our floors to begin with, but i must admit that i have fallen out of love with them. they are dark and dramatic...the dark is good, as it hides alot of the daily dirt from a busy family of 6 (abby included), but i find that it just brings me down. i would have went with wood floor in the beginning, but i needed something to break up the 2 different woods that were being used in the new and old part of the house. so i will have to live with these floors for a while. i am planning to repaint again soon though.
we also purchased new appliances and i am so happy that we were able to replace our old almond coloured fridge and stove. we purchased simple white appliances.. which i love. i don't particularly care for stainless steel appliances... except for gas/industrial looking ovens. i find stainless steel to be cold and uninviting. white is just so happy! and i am seeing white appliances featured in many of the style magazines this year... house and home, country living and even in serena's kitchen (above)!
